We raise free-range pastured Berkshire-cross pigs. Our small herd currently has about 12 acres of pasture to roam on! In 2025 we plan to expand this to 20 acres!!
Berkshire is an old British breed of hardy, hairy, mostly black pigs. They have smaller litters and grow slower than pig breeds commonly raised on pig farms, but they do extremely well in free-range settings and produce beautifully marbled meat. We do our best to provide our pigs with a good, stress-free, life before they feed our and your family. Wander dreamt of having pigs since he was 7 years old. Being able to raise them with this much pasture to roam on isn’t something that would have been possible back in the Netherlands. In the Netherlands 12 acres would have cost more than $500.000 CAD - not a wise investment to let a few pigs range on freely!
Our pigs take twice as long to raise as pigs typically kept in barns. In order to have a constant supply of pork we sometimes have to purchase pigs from other farmers. When we do so we make sure they are raised about the same way as we raise our pigs, they also spend a few months on our farm before going to the abattoir for processing.
We get our pigs and cattle procced at Quill Creek Farm, this is a federally inspected abattoir. It’s a bit of a drive for us but their level of craftsmanship is outstanding plus a federal inspector performs a health- and wellness inspection on the live animals and inspects the carcass and the organs after slaughter. This level of inspection is not done at most small town abattoirs around the province.
All our sausages are gluten friendly, so made with a gluten free spice mix but not in a separate facility.
We put together a variety of pork packages which all come with a number of free admission tickets to the Farm Park! This is our way of thanking you for supporting our farm!
Beside raising pigs and cows (since recently) for meat we also enjoy making items like dried flower wreaths, scrunchies, and beeswax candles, all of which can be found both in our farm store and web shop.
We also deliver, at no extra charge, any order of $75 or over to Saskatoon, Allan, or St. Denis!
